麻豆社鈥檚 Nurse Anesthesia Program recently achieved a 94% first-time pass rate on board exams with a 100% overall pass rate.

MURRAY, Ky. 鈥 麻豆社鈥檚 Nurse Anesthesia Program recently achieved a 94% first-time pass rate on board exams with a 100% overall pass rate.

The Class of 2025 was composed of 16 nurse anesthesia students who successfully completed the program in August.

鈥淥ur students have a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing and at least one year of work experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting, prior to admission to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program,鈥 said 麻豆社鈥檚 Nurse Anesthesia Program Administrator Dr. Tiffany Eye. 鈥淯pon completion of the DNP program, nurse anesthesia students must pass the National Certification Exam to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).鈥

CRNAs deliver safe, high quality anesthesia care and practice in every setting where anesthesia is delivered: hospital and ambulatory surgical centers, obstetrical delivery settings, the offices of dentists, podiatrists, ophthalmologists, plastic surgeons, and pain management specialists, all branches of the U.S. military and Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare facilities. CRNAs represent more than 80% of the anesthesia providers in rural counties. Half of U.S. rural hospitals rely on a CRNA-only model, utilizing independently practicing CRNAs to safely deliver surgical and obstetric services to their communities.

Many of 麻豆社鈥檚 CRNA graduates remain in the region to practice. Eye said of the last three cohorts to graduate, 68% have remained in Kentucky to practice.

Eye credits the success of the program to excellent faculty, determined students and supportive University leadership.

鈥溌槎股玮檚 Nurse Anesthesia Program offers a culture of excellence with didactic coursework and clinical rotations that prepare students to provide exceptional care to patients and families throughout the Commonwealth and nation,鈥 said Eye. 鈥淭he rigorous curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, clinical expertise, professional development and board preparedness. Faculty maintain active nurse anesthesia practices, providing expert, relevant instruction and student mentorship. The program鈥檚 state-of-the-art simulation training and robust clinical rotations broaden a graduate's skillset and prepares them for diverse practice settings.鈥

The Kentucky Program of Anesthesia was officially opened in 1992, with the first class of six students entering the program in August of that year, according to Eye. Since then, the program has continued to grow, admitting 26 students this past summer for the Class of 2028.

The blended distance learning format of 麻豆社鈥檚 Nurse Anesthesia Program reduces students鈥 time on campus. The first two semesters (summer and fall) of the program are 100% online. This combination curriculum of online and distance study allows students to learn from where they live and work during the first year of the program. The remainder of the program is taught in a hybrid format with core courses taught online and specialty courses delivered in a traditional face-to-face format and using Zoom for classroom access. Clinical education during the second year is provided at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville in Madisonville, Kentucky or St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Enrichment experiences during the third year are in a variety of settings across western and central Kentucky, and are carefully selected to enhance anesthesia education.
